Trump along with Japanese New Prime Minister Share Praise and Vow to Strengthen ‘Remarkable’ Bond
During a latest trip to Tokyo, former American leader Donald Trump and the Japanese recently elected Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi exchanged warm compliments and vowed to strengthen the already robust two-way relations.
Highlights from the Meeting
Donald Trump praised Prime Minister Takaichi as a ‘great’ leader and congratulated her on becoming Japan's first woman prime minister. During their talks at Tokyo's Akasaka Palace, Trump voiced optimism that Takaichi would become one of the ‘great prime ministers’ of Japan.
Takaichi, who is a close associate of late Japanese leader Shinzo Abe, praised Trump's efforts to address international disputes and reportedly vowed to nominate him for the prestigious award.
Trade and Defense Deals
The two governments revealed a list of joint initiatives in sectors such as energy, AI, and rare earths. Japanese firms are considering funding of up to $400 billion in the United States.
Furthermore, Japan had previously committed $550bn in strategic American projects, loans, and guarantees as part of an agreement to secure relief from the former president's import duties.
These moves are seen as potentially easing any future demands from the US side for Tokyo to boost its military expenditure. Takaichi responded to this by committing to accelerate proposals to increase defense spending to two percent of GDP.

The encounter highlights the continuing importance of the American-Japanese alliance and paves the way for further collaboration on trade, defense, and diplomatic areas.
