'Trapped in a Dreadful Dream': Relatives of Missing Teenagers Desperately Seek News After Alpine Blaze
The families of young people missing after a deadly inferno at a bar in a Swiss ski resort are confronting an excruciating wait for answers and pleading for clues about their loved ones online.
The blaze engulfed the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Swiss Alps of the Valais region, in the early hours of January 1st. Verified video depict the roof structure catching alight as bottles with sparklers are raised in celebration.
Emergency services have indicated that it could take days if not weeks to identify the those who perished of the disaster, which killed 40 people and injured another over a hundred. Officials stated on Friday that 113 of the those hurt have been identified, with efforts still underway to identify the final individuals.
In the interim, relatives have been using the internet to request any news about their missing relatives who were at the bar that evening.
Appeals for the Unaccounted For
The fate of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, 16, are still unconfirmed, according to an heartfelt request from his mother.
The resident of Lutry near Lausanne, explained to a local newspaper that she had returned to the city to check whether he was in the hospital, while his other parent did the equivalent search in Bern, but was unsuccessful.
"It feels like a terrible dream, an ordeal. The options are finding my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in intensive care. Words cannot describe it," she stated.
She explained that some of his companions had been discovered with injuries covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's indescribable; they endured an absolute nightmare."
The Italy's foreign ministry has said that six of its young people remain missing.
Included in that group is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old promising athlete, originally from Genoa but now living in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has stated that he is dead, without directly referencing the tragedy, paying tribute to a "talented young man who carried with him dedication and authentic values."
His father, reportedly stated that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around midnight. An official spokesperson has clarified that a official announcement of his death is not yet.
Additional Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is likewise among the missing. His parent explained that he had been on vacation but had gone out with friends and ended up at the bar.
"A companion informed me they escaped after the fire started and that he had his phone with him, but then at a certain point he lost sight of him," she explained, adding he had been wearing a distinctive piece of jewelry.
