Google to Invest $15bn to Build AI Data Hub in the Indian Subcontinent

Computing Infrastructure
The Nation is a key destination for computing facilities owing to its affordable data rates and quickly expanding digital audience.

Google's parent company the Alphabet conglomerate will invest $15 billion for constructing an AI data hub in southern India's Andhra Pradesh state.

This center, to be established in the coastal city of the city of Visakhapatnam, is going to be a part of Google's international system of artificial intelligence hubs located in twelve different countries.

"It's the largest AI facility that we plan to invest in worldwide, apart from the United States of America," Thomas Kurien stated at an event in capital Delhi recently, noting that the financial commitment is to be distributed throughout the next half-decade.

The announcement occurs when US President Donald Trump has been encouraging US firms to focus on investments within the country.

India's Growing Role in AI Computing

India has emerged as a key destination for AI data centers. The nation's affordable data pricing and quickly expanding digital audience have turned it into a hub for cloud and AI expansion for tech giants.

"The infrastructure will introduce our cutting-edge technology to businesses and consumers in the country, accelerating AI innovation and driving growth nationwide," said Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet.

Initiative Particulars

A formal agreement to complete the venture is scheduled for signing on Tuesday, the Andhra Pradesh government announced.

"It is a significant advancement for our state's technological advancement, innovation, and international reputation," said the minister for technology Nara Lokesh, the technology minister.

The venture will merge cloud and AI infrastructure with sustainable power solutions and an expanded fibre-optic network.

Data Infrastructure Plans

This initiative forms part of the state government's strategy to develop six gigawatts of computing facility capacity by 2029.

Computing facilities are actual buildings that accommodate the computer and network hardware that entities use to collect, process, store, and distribute data.

These include hosting servers, storage systems and networking hardware like routers and firewalls, along with the essential electricity and temperature control systems to operate them.

Investment Incentives

Within the state, the government has been granting reduced-cost property and power to draw worldwide funders.

Industry Growth

India's data centre industry has grown rapidly in the recent half-decade, exceeding the one gigawatt capacity threshold in 2024 and almost increasing threefold its capability from 2019.
